What skills and experience we're looking for

Kinver High School is seeking to appoint an inspirational and ambitious Head of Technology to join our ‘warm and welcoming school’ where ‘pupils behave well in lessons’ and ‘are polite and courteous’ (Ofsted Dec 21). The ideal candidate will share our student-centered values and be an engaging and proactive teacher with a passion for lifelong learning. You must firmly believe and be driven to ensure that every student regardless of starting point, can achieve success, enjoy school, and be engaged with wider school life, to become the best that they can be.

The candidate should ideally be a Design Technology main specialist and an outstanding classroom practitioner with either the ability and experience to teach through to A-Level, or the desire to one day do so. Kinver High School achieves above national outcomes at KS4 (P8+0.28) and has an ALPs score of a 2. The successful candidate will build on current developments within the school, Trust and nationally, to continue to improve outcomes and raise aspirations for all students.

What the school offers its staff

Currently, all students study Technology (Design and Food) at KS3 and in Year 9 students have the option to specialise into either Design Technology, Food Technology or Engineering. At KS4 all 3 disciplines are offered. Technology is a popular subject, valued by students and their parents. Uptake at KS4 is strong and growing, as are our outcomes:

  • D&T – P8 score was +0.29, with 70% grade 4+, 60% grade 5+ and 10% grade 7+.
  • Food Technology – P8 score was +0.60, with 81% grade 4+, 65% grade 5+ and 29% grade 7+.
  • DT Engineering – P8 score was broadly at National +0.01, with 85% grade 4+, 50% grade 5+ and 20% grade 7+.
  • Outcomes in Engineering were in the highest 20% percentile based on the Average point score (IDSR 2024)

The department is well resourced and will benefit from a redesign ready for September. Technology across the whole school will also be fully refreshed.

We are fortunate to be a Formula 1 School and are leading the way in the West Midlands with our students being at the forefront of this exciting initiative and have a very good track record of success both regionally and nationally. Students who want to get involved are able to use the dedicated CNC milling machine, wind tunnel, 25 metre track, 3D printer on which they use professional CAD packages to develop and test the protype F1 cars. We believe that are these unique and elite experiences that make sure that our students stand out from the crowd. If being a part of developing this further, appeals to you, then we’d love to hear from you!

We would strongly encourage you to get in touch and arrange a visit. We want the very best teachers for our students and look forward finding out if you are that person.

Please contact the HR Support Officer Miss T Brooks: tbrooks@invictus.education to arrange a visit or request further details.

We are a highly successful and increasingly popular oversubscribed 11-18 comprehensive school of around 740 students, situated in the picturesque village location of Kinver on the western fringe of the West Midlands. The school has undergone rapid growth in recent years due to its popularity, moving form a 4-form entry in Year 7 to 6-form entry. The school operates its own designated school coach transport service, which means that our intake spans 5 local authorities and our parents and students choose to come to us, making Kinver the non-selective ‘selective’ school.

We are sure that once you visit us and meet our students, you’ll find that we are the school for you and your career journey, our CPD through school and in partnership with Invictus is exemplary.
