What skills and experience we're looking for

Due to continued success, we have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and committed Head of year to join our team at Laurus Ryecroft. You will become a key member of the Laurus Trust family, and will play a vital role in maintaining the high standards of the Trust. Within this position you will manage the relevant year group including pastoral support, achievement, attendance, attainment/progress, behavioural issues and intervention and child protection matters.

This position is contracted on a Term Time Only basis. This means you will mainly work when the school is open to students and will not need to work during the school holidays unless the contract requires you to do so. In total you will be in work for a minimum of 37 out of 52 weeks.

Job Purpose(For further details on the role, please see the Job Description attached below)

  • Undertake personnel management duties including instructing and training year-group FormTutors.
  • Work closely with identified groups of students in all year groups with regard to progress,engagement and achievement.
  • Establish positive relationships with parents, staff and outside agencies in line with the schools’vision and values.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Sound educational background including GCSE’s in Maths and English (A*-C) or equivalent
  • Recent management experiencewith people
  • Ideally possess prior experience within a similar role

Laurus Ryecroft is an oversubscribed secondary school for 11 to 18-year-old students in Tameside. In our very first Ofsted inspection in January 2023, Laurus Ryecroft was judged Outstanding in every category.

The school is run by the Laurus Trust and replicates the outstanding education offered by the Trust’s founder school, Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS), based in Stockport. CHHS is a hugely oversubscribed school and has been named as one of the UK’s top-performing schools in The Sunday Times, ranking as the 15th non-denominational comprehensive school in Manchester and the North West in the annual Parent Power Survey for 2022.

Laurus Ryecroft is a non-selective, non-denominational free school. It opened in September 2018 and we moved into our new school building with access to state-of-the-art facilities in 2020. We now have students in years 7 – 12. With the sixth form opening in September 2023. We currently have a total of 1070 students on roll.
