What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking a Head of Year to lead a year group, focusing on academic progress and achievement, behaviour, attendance and general wellbeing. You will also be an inspirational teacher with the skills to teach across the ability range from KS3 to KS5, with excellent subject knowledge within your specialism.
Your role will be:
- To provide leadership and direction for the year team and ensure that it is managed and organised to meet the objectives of the school and the pastoral system
- To lead the work of the year group tutors in promoting the best possible standards of learning, effort and achievement in students
- To monitor the progress of students with a commitment to raising standards
- To promote and celebrate excellent behaviour and rewards. To ensure behaviour management is consistent throughout the year group
- To work with colleagues to identify barriers to learning impacting on students’ progress
- To manage and deploy any staff or financial and physical resources relating to the post.
As a teacher and a Head of Year, you should be able to engage, enthuse, motivate and challenge students to reach the highest levels of achievement. You will be expected to monitor behaviour and attendance across a year group and work closely with colleagues to take appropriate action and put in place suitable support mechanisms. You should also be flexible, adaptable and results orientated, able to prioritise and resilient under pressure.
If you think you can offer what we need, you are invited to join our existing team of Heads of Year (one for each year group) who work with students on a daily basis and:
- lead and manage students’ behaviour, acting as a role model for all by demonstrating high quality pastoral care and support, rigorous expectations and a visible, professional presence with students
- maintain strong communication links with parents and carers to ensure the behaviour systems implemented within the school are supported and communicated clearly to parents.
