Head of Year job summary

Thank you for your interest in joining Park High School.

Park High is a school of character and opportunity, known for its caring, harmonious ethos and high aspirations for every student. We are proud to provide an environment in which young people can flourish both academically and personally, supported by high standards, excellent pastoral care and a strong sense of community.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed and highly effective Head of Year 8 to join our pastoral team. This is an exciting opportunity for a colleague with a passion for student wellbeing, behaviour, attendance and character development to play a key role in shaping the experience of students at Park High School.

The successful candidate will lead Year 8 with energy, clarity and compassion, actively supporting the vision and ethos of the school. They will promote a strong culture of behaviour, attendance and personal development by embedding our Character Virtues and delivering a pastoral curriculum that teaches students the values and expectations of Park High. Working closely with tutors, pastoral staff, families and senior leaders, the Head of Year 8 will ensure that every student is known, supported and challenged to achieve their very best.

A central part of the role is to lead a culture of recognition within the year group, ensuring that positive behaviour, academic effort, attendance and character are consistently celebrated. The successful candidate will implement systems that motivate students to aspire to excellence, while ensuring that achievements are regularly recognised and shared with families.

The Head of Year 8 will lead a team of tutors and work closely with a Pastoral Support Assistant to ensure that students are fully supported in all aspects of school life. The role involves maintaining high visibility around the school, monitoring standards of behaviour, uniform, punctuality and conduct, and responding swiftly and effectively where support or intervention is needed. The successful candidate will also play an important role in identifying and supporting vulnerable or at-risk students, working closely with safeguarding, SEND, attendance and teaching staff to ensure the right provision is in place.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for a strong pastoral leader to make a real difference to the lives of young people. We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, a commitment to inclusion and safeguarding, and the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, parents and carers. The successful candidate will contribute not only to the leadership of Year 8, but also to the wider pastoral life and culture of the school.

We can offer:

  • A stimulating and inclusive school environment where high expectations and strong relationships underpin success
  • A vibrant, award-winning school with an excellent reputation locally and beyond
  • A genuine commitment to the wellbeing of students and staff
  • Students who are motivated, well behaved and eager to succeed
  • A supportive and dedicated pastoral team within which to grow and develop
  • Outstanding student outcomes, including a significantly positive Progress 8 score and zero NEETs
  • Genuine opportunities for professional learning and career progression

If you are committed to securing the very best outcomes for young people and have the passion and drive to lead Year 8 with warmth, determination and high expectations, we would be delighted to hear from you.
