What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for an experienced Head of Year (Pastoral/Non Teaching) to support our students at Harris Academy Chobham.
We would like to hear from you if you have:
- GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above, or equivalent
- Knowledge of behaviour for learning policies
- Knowledge of the range of barriers to learning that students face
- Training in child protection and safeguarding procedures
- Basic knowledge of first aid (e.g. emergency first aid course)
- Two years' experience of working in an inner city school or educational establishment
- Experience of dealing successfully with a range of behaviour issues
- Experience of working with staff to ensure excellent behaviour for learning
- Experience of working with families
- Experience of supervising a group of students for reflections, referral and internal exclusion as appropriate
- Experience of working with challenging students and finding ways in which we can meet their needs more successfully

Further details about the role
In this varied and rewarding role, you will:
- Oversee the pastoral progress of a named year group
- Liaise with parents and careers and other external agencies as appropriate under guidance from their line manager
- Be responsible for the calm and purposeful entrance and exit of students into/out of the Academy
- Ensuring that students enter the building in full Academy uniform and if not, following the agreed procedures
- Be responsible for calm and purposeful movement around the academy between lessons
- Be responsible for maintaining a calm and purposeful learning environment by supporting the Academy Leadership Group (ALG) with duty during the academy day, proactively visiting lessons to ensure expectations regarding behaviour remain high and students remain focussed
- Work with the other members of the behaviour team as a unit to ensure students are monitored and supervised before school, during break and throughout lunch.
- Manage reflections as per the reflections schedule and rota
- Ensure that follow up action is taken for students failing to meet Academy standards
- Follow through any issues to do with behaviour as required by the Academy Leadership Group, such as taking student statements regarding incidents and passing these on to relevant colleagues, and logging behaviour events on Bromcom or CPOMS
