Since relaunching in September 2021 with a new name and a new ethos, Queen Elizabeth School is quickly establishing itself as a centre for excellence. We are on a mission to “empower our students to achieve academic excellence through aspiration and innovation”. With the support of a highly ambitious leadership team and surrounded by colleagues who are passionate about the whole student experience, and with our new sixth form, QE6 opening in September 2023, now is a fantastic time to join our forward thinking school.

Situated on the Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire border and close to the market town of Hitchin, the school also benefits from being within 5 minutes drive of idyllic countryside locations, yet being 5 minutes from the M1 and London Luton Airport.

We are now looking to appoint a Head of Year with the possibility of Teaching responsibilities to join our team. This is an essential role in the school to ensure that students’ welfare is prioritised and prevent barrier's to students’ achievement. .

Key Duties

To have responsibility for all student behaviours and attitudes to learning within the year group and to liaise directly with Deputy Headteacher behaviour and welfare where appropriate

To promote a positive ethos for learning through the high expectations of all student interactions; conduct, behaviour, attendance, punctuality, uniform, equipment, etc

To monitor student behaviour, attendance and punctuality and take remedial action as appropriate in conjunction with other key post holders

To contact parents to discuss student progress, behaviour, attendance and punctuality

To liaise with external agencies as appropriate to support a student’s needs

To chair form tutor meetings and ensure that behaviour, attendance, punctuality are not barriers to academic achievement.

To ensure the schools rewards policy is implemented consistently and to promote and celebrate student achievement in public on a regular basis
