What skills and experience we're looking for

Due to the current Head Teacher’s career development Gunthorpe Church of England Primary School is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative and highly motivated Head Teacher to this wonderful, small village school and community, to build on its existing success and lead it into an exciting future.

There is a supportive environment at Gunthorpe C of E Primary School where the focus is on developing the whole child through enriching their life at school with a vibrant curriculum. In recent years extensive work has been undertaken to respond to changes in curriculum expectations. At our Autumn 2021 Ofsted inspection the inspector commented that “the curriculum extends far beyond the academic”. The individual ambition of the school is supported by Aspire Trust. Opportunities for peer-to-peer support and cross-school collaboration will ensure the successful candidate has a strong network of support to enable them to achieve the very best for our school. There will be a teaching element with this position.

You will have:

  • A clear vision for the future of our school, further developing its ethos and the safe, caring and ambitious atmosphere that currently exists
  • Strong leadership qualities that will motivate and challenge in the next stage of the school’s development
  • Good emotional intelligence to ensure good communication and relationships with all members of the school community
  • The ability to lead a strong and experienced team with complementary skills
  • Be able to inspire and work in partnership with pupils, staff, parents/carers, governors and other stakeholders
  • The ability to uphold the distinctively Christian ethos of our school

What the school offers its staff

Our next Head Teacher will be supported in their role by a highly dedicated, experienced and friendly staff team, supportive Governing Body and by engaged and enthusiastic parents and carers. Inspected in Autumn term 2021 we were confirmed by Ofsted to be a good school and were particularly proud of the comment: “leaders want pupils to learn well in a school that is friendly, loving and safe. Leaders are achieving these goals”.

We know that work-life balance can be hard in education and in senior leadership. Our current Head works 4 days per week. The successful candidate will have the support of our highly-effective Deputy Head to ensure the efficient running of the school to support flexible working. We are very open to discussing flexible working opportunities and we are able to consider full time or part time so please do get in touch and have a chat with us if flexible working as a Head Teacher is something that interests you.

In return we can offer you:

  • The opportunity to drive our successful school forward
  • Clear autonomy as the Head Teacher of the school with the added benefit of support and guidance from other leaders in the Trust.
  • Dedicated and highly motivated staff, with the support of an experienced Deputy where strong relationships with pupils, parents/carers and the local community are in place
  • An active and forward-thinking Governing Body
  • An active and supportive PTA
  • Professional development, collaboration and ongoing support through being a partner in Aspire Trust.

There is a culture where everyone is valued for whoever they are or whatever they want to be.

The headteacher and her supportive staff team, together ensure that the Christian vision underpins all learning and support for pupils’ well being. This means that pupils flourish in the school, demonstrating progress academically, socially and spiritually.
