What skills and experience we're looking for

Our school is ‘outstanding’ but we are not complacent. Are you the person to build on our success?

Deanery C.E. Primary School and Nursery is a popular two-form entry Primary School with a Nursery Class and a Before and After School Club. Following the retirement of our current Head Teacher, we are looking to recruit a Head Teacher from Easter 2025. This position is full time and permanent.

Deanery C.E. Primary School is in Walmley, Sutton Coldfield and is a thriving, over-subscribed ‘outstanding’ school, which became a converter academy in 2011. It has an excellent reputation and we develop and nurture every child through the distinctive Christian ethos and values that permeate the school.

We seek an inspirational and highly motivated person to develop our strong commitment to excellence, building on the leading practice established within the school.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have proven leadership, management and interpersonal skills.
  • Support and develop our distinctive Christian ethos in strongly established partnerships with local churches, the community and other schools.
  • Develop our children and staff across the school to their full potential.
  • Lead learning as an exemplary innovative practitioner.
  • Ensure strong financial management and governance.
  • Lead and develop the wider opportunities in our extended services.

What the school offers its staff

  • A professional challenge and an opportunity to grow the great work of the school;
  • A strong team of dedicated staff;
  • The Governors’ commitment to support you and your professional development;
  • A vibrant and caring Christian community; and,
  • Not least, fantastic children.

Further details about the role

Dear Applicant

Thank you for your interest in the role of Head Teacher at the Deanery Church of England Primary School. Our current Head Teacher is retiring after many happy and rewarding years at the school. We are now looking forward to appointing a new Head Teacher who will be able to continue the great work of the Deanery and drive us in our future development.

The Deanery is a great school. Graded consistently as Outstanding, we were one of the first Primary schools to choose to convert to an Academy in Birmingham. This gives us the independence and freedom to adapt to the changing world of education while retaining our important Christian ethos. It also characterises the willingness of our school to innovate and the independent thinking that defines our Governing Body and Leadership team.

We are looking for a Head Teacher who can shape an exciting and challenging agenda and who:

  • Is a strategic thinker with the ability and knowledge to maintain and enhance our high standards in the ever changing world of education;
  • Is able to lead, empower and motivate colleagues and children and can demonstrate proven leadership experience;
  • Will support and develop our valued Christian ethos;
  • Has high expectations of themselves and a capacity to develop further in leadership; and,
  • Recognises the many facets of school management today including pre-school provision, extended services, and the wider community of the school.

  • Will ensure strong financial management and governance in order to operate effectively and deliver high quality teaching and learning;

In return, the Deanery will offer you:

  • A professional challenge and an opportunity to grow the great work of the school;
  • A strong team of dedicated staff;
  • The Governors’ commitment to support you and your professional development;
  • A vibrant and caring Christian community; and,
  • Not least, fantastic children.

We hope that the accompanying information and our website will encourage you to apply. If you should need more details or would like to arrange a visit please feel free to contact Karen Woodhall at the school. We look forward to receiving your application.

Yours sincerely,
