Job summary
With the upcoming retirement of our inspirational Head in August 2021, a rare opportunity has arisen to lead our excellent school and leadership team and be part of this forward thinking and highly successful all girls’ selective Grammar School.
TGGS is a girls’ 11-18 selective Academy which has the core aim of developing caring, healthy women who achieve outstanding academic results. Achievement is consistently high and TGGS has maintained its position as one of the top 20 state girls' schools in the country for both progress and achievement.
Our school is part of a wider network of grammar schools, the South West Academic Trust (SWAT) which shares good practice and provides support, including a strong Headteachers’ network. The last Ofsted inspection, in September 2011, rated the school ‘Outstanding’ in all categories.
Torquay’s position makes it convenient for the outstanding natural beauty of both Dartmoor and the South Devon coast. The beaches of the county are some of the best of the country and you can get away from the stresses of life by walking on the rugged moors. The beautiful cathedral city of Exeter is on your doorstep, as is the City of Plymouth with its rich maritime history; both of these have excellent new shopping centres. There is a unanimous feeling among staff that the area is a wonderful place to bring up children.
The Governors of Torquay Girls’ Grammar School are seeking a highly motivated and outstanding Headteacher or exceptional Deputy Headteacher to see this amazing school through its next era. The successful candidate will build on all that has been achieved previously and construct an exciting new plan for the next 7 years and beyond. We want someone to combine our illustrious past with their own vision for our future.
The successful candidate:
A well-qualified individual with experience at senior management level;
Significant experience across a broad spectrum of teaching;
Experience in managing staff and supporting their professional development;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
Ability to balance efficiency and operational resilience;
Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
Employee benefits
A relocation package will be available for the right candidate.
