Headteacher job summary

Acacias Community Primary School is a school committed to supporting children to achieve their best regardless of their starting point. The school is in a culturally diverse area and celebrates the diversity of the school community. We are proud to be regarded as a model of inclusion for children with Special Educational Needs. The school has developed its own resource base (The Treehouse) for some of our KS2 children with EHCPs, who are taught each morning in a small group of 8 by a teacher and two TAs. The children return to their core class for the afternoons with their peers. This approach has been very successful.

The current Headteacher will be retiring this year, and the Governors are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, dedicated and inspirational new Headteacher with a commitment to inclusion and continuous school improvement, to take up the post in April 2022.

We are seeking
• A new Headteacher, who will demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting the ethos of the school and someone who will be approachable and visible around the school to children, staff, parents and carers.
• An individual ,who will motivate, inspire and develop staff whilst also ensuring well-being is valued and promoted as a core value.
• A leader, whose motivation is children and helping them achieve to the best of their abilities and who understands individual children’s needs and the wide range of experiences and factors that can impact on their well-being and achievement.

Governors and staff are highly motivated to support a new Headteacher coming into this post, and are committed to working with the new Headteacher to ensure that Acacias remains an excellent school that supports, and is supported by, the whole school community.

We ensure that the children receive a broad, balanced curriculum that is enriched by visits and visitors. We moved into a brand new purpose built building in 2012 and have large grounds, which are viewed as a green oasis in the local area.

Commitment to safeguarding

We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share the same commitment. The post will be subject to enhanced DBS checks, satisfactory references, proof of right to work in the UK and will be exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

We strive to create a fair and inclusive workplace that is as diverse as the communities we serve. We welcome applications from candidates regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy, and maternity, race, religion/belief, sex and sexual orientation.

Acacias CPS is situated in the area of Burnage, some 4 miles south of the centre of Manchester and close to the Stockport boundary. The area is predominantly 1930’s semi-detached housing and whilst mainly privately owned there is also a fairly large local authority housing estate from which the school draws pupils. The school population reflects the local area and our catchment includes children from many different cultural backgrounds. 62% of our children have English as an additional language. 25% of children receive Free School Meals (this percentage has increased significantly over the pandemic). 12% of children have SEN, including 16 children with Education Health and Care Plans.
