Do you have the drive, passion, and ambition to lead the staff and pupils at Carleton High School?

Due to the internal promotion within the Trust of the current postholder, Pontefract Academies Trust seeks to appoint a talented senior leader who can lead the school on the next phase of its improvement journey. You will be highly motivated and passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with the natural ability to inspire and motivate both pupils and peers.

About the School

Carleton High School is an 11-16 school, part of Pontefract Academies Trust. In recent years, the school has enjoyed a significant improvement journey, being rated good by Ofsted in 2019. In 2020 the school was recognised as the most improved school in the North of England according to the Fairer Secondary Schools Index published by the Northern Powerhouse Partnership. The school is now well-positioned to kick on to the next level, and the right person will build on the strong foundations in place. The school was named in the Department for Education rebuilding programme with work due to commence later this year.

The successful candidate will:

• Have the desire and ability to achieve aspirational targets for high standards of progress, attainment, and behaviour across the school.
• Have a good understanding of what makes an exceptional school and the skills, character, and resilience to develop this.
• Be a first-class teacher – as the leader of teaching and learning, we are looking for someone who knows what great learning looks like in the classroom and knows how to achieve it so that pupils of all abilities know and remember more.
• Be fully in tune and excited with the direction of the Trust, with a recognition that formally aligned systems, approaches and practices across our schools will drive standards for the young people of Pontefract.
• Be strategic-minded and decisive with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to engage a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Your professional development will be a crucial priority, and you will have the support of a network of highly skilled and experienced senior leaders. Our headteachers across primary and secondary work collaboratively and understand the importance of developing an all-through education from the early years to the end of key stage four.

The headteacher post is a fantastic opportunity to join a locality-based Trust moving forwards at a pace.

For a conversation about the role, prospective candidates are advised to contact Julian Appleyard OBE, the CEO of the Trust. Please email Philippa Dykes, PA to the CEO at pdykes@patrust.org.uk or 01977 232146 to arrange this.

Completed application forms, including a covering letter that fully addresses the competencies outlined in the role description and person specification, should be submitted online via Face-Ed before the closing date of Friday 11th February 2022. Interviews are scheduled to take place week commencing 14th February 2022; however, this is subject to change.
