What skills and experience we're looking for
On behalf of the school community, the governors of Croftlands Junior School are looking for a new Head Teacher. We are seeking a strong leader who is ready to build on the solid foundations created by our current Head Teacher, who is retiring after 14 years. During their tenure, they built a successful and inclusive Junior school. The recent Ofsted inspection in September 2022, in which SEND was quoted as a strength, confirmed that it continues to be a good school.
Croftlands Junior School is situated in a quiet South Lakeland market town close to the Lake District National Park. During our recent Ofsted inspection, the inspector asked what it is like to attend this school.
“Pupils said that their teachers are supportive and that they make lessons interesting. Pupils told inspectors that they feel happy. Parents typically said that their children enjoy attending school and that they come out smiling every day.”
Our school has a good reputation in the community and is known for its inclusive ethos. This is reflected in our school motto“Learning together, growing together”. We believe that school should provide an atmosphere of trust and confidence, where every member of the school community is valued and appreciated and where everyone can realise their potential.
Our children were asked what they were looking for in a new Head Teacher, the answer was“Someone who takes time to get to know us all individually and makes us feel special”.
The governors are looking for a Head Teacher who can continue to lead the school into the next phase of our journey.
What the school offers its staff
The last Ofsted inspection took place in September 2022 and the school was judged to still be a good school. We are an inclusive school and have a high proportion of SEND children and children with EHCPs compared to the national averages. SEND was judged to be a strength of the school.
As a school we aim:
- To provide strong and effective leadership and a motivated staff, working in partnership with children, parents, governors and the community.
- To maintain the highest standards of teaching and learning and to provide a well planned and stimulating curriculum for all our children.
- To provide, manage and utilise resources necessary for all aspects of learning.
- To provide a safe, stimulating environment where all children and adults feel valued for the contribution they make.
- To enable children to develop respect for themselves and for others and to promote a caring, positive attitude towards the community and their local environment.
- To prepare children for life in its widest sense, enabling them to take their place in society as fulfilled committed individuals able to play their part in local and wider affairs.
- To give equal opportunities to all our pupils so that they may become contributors to a society free from all forms of prejudice and discrimination.
Commitment to safeguarding
Croftlands Junior School is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undertake pre-employment checks, which will include references, Right to Work in the UK and an enhanced DBS check for regulated activity (to include a children’s barred list check). Please note that in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022 an online search will be carried out as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates.

Croftlands Junior School was created in 1974 when the existing primary school was divided into two schools to cater for Infant and Junior children separately. It is a Local Authority Community School, sharing its extensive site with Croftlands Infant School and situated in a quiet South Lakeland market town close to the Lake District National Park.
In December 2018, we moved into a brand new building on the same site. The grounds include a large playing field, a playground and a wooded wildlife area and are under continual development and improvement.
