What skills and experience we're looking for
Edith Weston Academy sits on the shore of Rutland Water and benefits from a large and spacious building and extensive grounds. We are a small school with small class sizes and a small staff team and looking for an aspirational new Headteacher to lead our school into the future. We strongly believe that every child is an individual and nurture each child to achieve their best.
Edith Weston Academy is a unique and hidden gem, and we are seeking an exceptional and innovative leader to lead our school forwards. It would be an ideal first Headship for an aspiring senior leader or Head of School, or an existing Head looking for a new challenge. The new Head will be responsible for leading the school, creating and developing their vision for the future. They will lead school improvement and standards, teaching and learning, building links with our families and wider community, creating the school development plan and reporting to governors. Due to the size of the school the post will also include a teaching commitment.
We enjoy close links with the nearby military base and are proud to welcome service families into our school, along with children living in the village and nearby villages. The school also benefits from an indoor swimming pool used by both our children and external groups. We have an exceptional Nursery provision as part of the school which is hugely popular with parents in the surrounding area. We also have a successful Nurture provision onsite which is a central part of the local SEND offer. The Nurture Hub is run by our school but is a separate provision that is funded by Rutland County Council. Our highly skilled Nurture team work collaboratively with the County Council and provide outreach support to other Rutland schools.
Edith Weston is part of the Brooke Hill Academy Trust which is a small Trust of three schools in Rutland and Lincolnshire. All three schools and Heads work closely together along with the CEO, but we celebrate each schools’ individuality, and each retains their own character, vision and values. The new Headteacher will be very well supported by our CEO who works closely with the Headteachers as a mentor/ coach and is in each school every week. The three Headteachers also work closely together and there is much shared support and joint work across the schools.
Our ideal candidate will be an innovative leader, experienced teacher and strong team player with a passion for education. They will have:
- a proven experience as a senior leader and demonstrate examples of improving teaching and learning and raising standards
- drive, energy and ambition for both themselves and the school
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and the ability to ensure that safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do
- strength of character to lead and inspire staff, nurture the staff team whilst holding them to account to ensure that the children achieve their best outcomes
- an outward looking view of education, always seeking to improve themselves and continuously develop the school. An openness to work collaboratively with others is essential
- the ability to establish themselves as a credible leader and foster professional, influential relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
We hope you will be inspired to apply to be our new Headteacher and would welcome prospective candidates to visit the school or have a telephone conversation with our CEO, Craig Charteris. This can be arranged by contacting Kate Czuprynski (PA to the CEO) :
