Headteacher job summary
Herefordshire Pupil Referral Service (HPRS) is seeking a strong Headteacher and leader who is passionate about improving outcomes for some of the most vulnerable cohorts of children across the County and welcomes the prospect of leading change.
HPRS is a registered maintained school governed by a Management Committee. It is located in 3 learning centres within the City of Hereford. The Pupil Referral Centres are the St David’s Centre and Aconbury Centre. The Home and Hospital Teaching Team (known as H3) is a separate centre for pupils with medical and mental health needs who are unable to attend school. H3 also deploys tutors across the county if pupils are unable to leave their home to attend school. H3 was amalgamated into HPRS in September 2020.
HPRS was judged to be ‘Good’ in 2017 but changing expectations around all aspects of the provision mean that there is further improvement work to be undertaken and HPRS is looking for the right person who will relish this challenge and take the school forward.
The staff team at all three centres are a knowledgeable, dedicated, and caring workforce, who are committed to improving the standards of education and care that the school provides. Staff demonstrate empathy with the students, many of whom have experienced adversity in their lives. You would be joining a creative team and would build on the excellent relationships that already exist between staff, students and wider community. Candidates are sought who can readily demonstrate inspiring, positive leadership bringing a wide range of experience from previous posts.
HPRS also benefits from excellent long-standing working relationships with a range of services and agencies that support the school and its students. These include LA Education and Early Help staff, CAMHS, Social Care including child exploitation services, child health services and the police. Relationships with local schools as customers of HPRS are also strong with several senior leaders from local schools serving on the small but dedicated Management Committee. A leader who can further enhance and exploit these opportunities for collaborative working will be key to the success of the school.
You will need to be an excellent two-way communicator and promote inclusive engagement with all students, staff, parents and the wider community. As a team we seek to create a positive and empowering ethos that supports our learners to develop emotional resilience, self-esteem and confidence that will in turn support academic progress and outcomes for adulthood.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment, with a focus on listening to the student voice. The successful applicant will be required to provide an enhanced DBS disclosure and evidence of continuous service.
In return we offer excellent professional support and a comprehensive development programme.
If you are ready for your next challenge and can meet the requirements of the role, we would be keen to hear from you.
