Job summary

Accountable to the Local Academy Committee and InMAT Board of Trustees, the Head will be responsible for the organisation, management, and smooth running of the school. This includes implementing safeguarding legislation, ensuring high quality teaching and learning, pupil and staff welfare and strong financial management. Working with the Local Academy Committee, InMAT Board of Trustees and Senior Leadership Team, the Head will develop a strategic view for the school that takes into account the wider community and will ensure accurate self-evaluation to inform school planning. In addition, the role will include an operational input into the development of wider InMAT mission and objectives. This is a full time non-class teaching position and the role will be reviewed annually as part of the appraisal cycle.

Essential educational requirements

A degree or equivalent. Higher degree qualification, post graduate courses. Recognised management qualification

Essential qualifications

Qualified teacher status
Evidence of sustained participation in CPD, especially school management programme or similar
Participation in work with other schools/agencies. Experience of leading CPD activities for others. Completion of NPQH/LPSH

Essential skills and experience

Substantial classroom teaching experience with primary aged children. Experience of curriculum leadership.
Three years’ experience as a senior manager/deputy head in a large school, or as a Head.
Experience of managing and leading staff and managing teaching and learning resources. Awareness of how to set a school budget and manage facilities.
Knowledge of education and other relevant legislation. Ofsted awareness. Knowledge of current developments in Education. Understanding how to conduct appraisals.
Practical understanding of high quality teaching and learning strategies including preparing pupils to live in a diverse society. Practical understanding of writing and implementing the IEPs.
Knowledge and understanding of writing and using a School Improvement Plan to raise standards. Strategies to raise pupil achievement and manage behaviour. Understanding of the positive use of target setting in raising standards of achievement.
