Headteacher of North Brent School job summary

Main Purpose:

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional Headteacher who will promote a culture of excellence and have the drive and skillset to secure the very best outcomes for students. The successful candidate will be an inspirational leader with the highest academic standards as North Brent School continues to grow. They will be able to look at the changing external environment and provide a deep and accurate analysis of the impact of these changes. This is a continuous and ongoing process which requires the candidate to have a broad and yet detailed understanding of the educational landscape with the ability to make judgments on how the changes will impact the school.

The Headteacher will work closely with the CEO to provide strategic leadership at North Brent School. They will also work in conjunction with the WHTC Leadership Team to ensure that the right strategies are agreed and implemented, achieving consistency across the secondary schools.

The successful candidate will be able to understand how to make effective and efficient use of resources. They will provide professional leadership for the school which secures its success and improvement, ensuring high quality education for all its pupils and excellent standards of achievement. North Brent will open its Sixth Form in September 2025. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in Sixth Form leadership.

MAIN TASKS

1. Strategic direction and development of North Brent School

1.1 Provide inspiring and purposeful leadership for the staff and pupils.

1.2 To work in partnership with the CEO, WHTC Leadership Team, staff and pupils to embed the ethos and values which underpin the school.

1.3 Implement a Development Plan which will secure continuous secondary school improvement aligned to the WHTC model.

1.4 Monitor and evaluate the performance of the school and report to the CEO.

1.5 To ensure that secondary school policies and practices take account of national requirements.

1.6 To monitor, evaluate and review the impact of policies, priorities and targets of the secondary school and act as necessary. Ensure that these are aligned to the schools across the Trust.

2. Teaching and learning

2.1 Develop and maintain an environment that promotes and secures excellent teaching, effective learning, high standards of achievement and excellent behaviour.

2.2 Determine, organise, implement and monitor the curriculum and its assessment and ensure that statutory requirements are met. Ensure that the assessment systems are aligned throughout the organisation.

2.3 Ensure that pupils develop the skills and knowledge in order to learn more effectively and with increasing independence. Deliver the early entry model where students are entered for GCSE exams in Years 9 and 10, securing the highest outcomes and going on to be successful in on-year fast track GCSE courses.

2.4 Determine, organise and implement a policy for the personal, social and moral development of pupils.

2.5 Consistently monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and the standards of achievement of all pupils in the secondary school through practices that match the school.

2.6 Determine and align all school policies. Determine and implement positive strategies and programmes which ensure excellent pupil behaviour and discipline.

2.7 Develop and maintain effective links with business and industry, to extend the curriculum and enhance teaching and learning.

2.8 Maintain an effective partnership with parents and the wider community to support and improve pupils’ achievement and personal development.

2.9 Promote extra- curricular activities in accordance with the educational aims of the secondary school.

3. Leading and managing staff

3.1 Plan, allocate, support and evaluate work undertaken by groups, teams and individuals, ensuring clear delegation of tasks and devolution of responsibilities.

3.2 Implement effective systems for the management of staff performance, incorporating performance management and target setting in line with the school.

3.3 Promote and monitor the continuing professional development of staff, including the induction of newly qualified teachers.

3.4 Develop excellent working relationships with staff, pupils, parents and the community.

4. Efficient and effective deployment of staff and resources

4.1 Work with the CEO to recruit and retain staff of the highest quality.

4.2 Make arrangements for the security and effective supervision of the secondary school buildings, their contents and the grounds.

4.3 Manage and organise the accommodation efficiently and effectively to ensure it meets the needs of the curriculum and health and safety regulations.

4.4 Work with colleagues to deploy and develop all staff effectively in order to maintain and improve the quality of education provided.

5. Accountability

5.1 Continue to develop an organisation in which all the staff recognise that they are accountable for the success of the school.

5.2 Present a coherent and accurate account of the school’s performance.

5.3 Ensure that parents and pupils are well informed about the curriculum, attainment and progress and about the contribution they can make in supporting their child’s learning and achieving the secondary school’s targets for improvement.

5.4 Carry out any such duties as requested by the CEO.
