Overchurch Junior School has a vacancy for an inspirational leader to undertake the post of head teacher from September 2020. (An earlier start may be an option.)
This is a wonderful opportunity to lead an improving school with great potential. The Governing Body and school community are proud of this school and are looking to appoint a skillful school leader to help us improve further. This successful candidate will build on the recent improvements implemented by staff and governors to improve academic attainment and address the development points from our most recent OFSTED report.
This large junior school is a popular and integral part of an established local community. Overchurch Junior School shares very large grounds with our Infant School partner. It is an oversubscribed three-form entry school. Governors have undertaken a lot of work in the last 12 months to ensure that the school has a sustainable budget. Approximately 20% of pupils are in receipt of Pupil Premium funding.
Overchurch Junior School is a positive and friendly environment in which to work and learn. Teachers, teaching assistants and support staff all work exceptionally well as a team. Governors are actively involved in school life. The children are well-behaved and participate wholeheartedly in all aspects of school life, both in the classroom and in the many and varied extra-curricular activities.
Governors are looking for a head teacher who will lead our school to even higher standards and ensure that we have a strong working relationship with Overchurch Infant School. Our new head teacher will need to inspire and lead staff and children to achieve our ambitions for the Overchurch community. We want to ensure that all our pupils achieve their potential academically and as citizens who contribute to their community.

Graduate level qualification.

Evidence of continuing professional development
Evidence of recent and relevant training and development at headship level and/or in preparation for headship
Either completed or started National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH)
Recent and up to date safeguarding training
Successfully undertaken an approved ‘safer recruitment’ training or a commitment to do so before taking up the post.
Essential skills and experience
A recent and proven track record as a Head teacher, Deputy Head teacher or senior leader in Key Stage Two.
Evidence of impact as an effective strategic leader.
A working and current knowledge of challenges and opportunities with Key Stage Two education.
Experience of leading strategic change effectively
Understanding of how to effectively manage transition between Key Stage One and Key Stage Two for the benefit of staff and pupils.
Understanding of how to effectively manage transition to secondary school for the benefit of pupils.
The ability to lead an effective leadership team and develop leadership across the organisation.
Ability to work productively with the Governing Body and ensure that the school fulfils its statutory duties
An in depth knowledge of relevant education research, national curriculum requirements and how to ensure this informs effective school leadership.
Track record that demonstrates an understanding of how to ensure success for every child.
