Headteacher job summary

The Robert Fitzroy Academy opened as a brand new primary academy in September 2012, and has since established itself as a ‘Good’ school. Starting a school ‘from scratch’ is both a great privilege and an enormous undertaking. Our £10 million building refurbishment has turned imposing classic, historical buildings into a bright, modern and inspiring learning environment and we are continuing to invest in our setting – offering up-to-date technology and vibrant teaching and learning spaces for our pupils and staff. The school has worked hard during these formative years to establish its ethos and core values resulting in happy, inspiring learning environment where children are motivated to achieve and where staff are encouraged, supported and developed to continually strive for excellence.
We are looking for a passionate and inspiring leader with a clear strategic vision for improving the school's effectiveness and raising standards and expectations through strong and exceptional leadership and management. Having now achieved two ‘good’ judgments in our previous OFSTED inspections we now want a leader who will support us towards achieving an outstanding education for our pupils through a highly effective, enriching and well-planned curriculum.

Commitment to safeguarding

RFA is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all members of staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An Enhanced DBS disclosure check is required for this post. Applicants who have lived or worked overseas for more than six months in the last 10 years will be required to obtain a Certificate of Good Conduct.

We are an Ofsted rated ‘Good School’ with two previous ‘Good’ inspections since our opening in 2012.

We are a school who believe in human flourishing; championing the children’s whole experience at school. We want our enriching and tailored curriculum to impact the children’s mind, body and soul.

The whole child is the whole point of what we do here at RFA.

The Robert Fitzroy Academy is a school that dreams big for its pupils.

The school is named after a man called (as you may guess!) Robert Fitzroy.

There is so much from his character and life that is embodied in the school ethos, culture and actions. He was a sea captain leading different expeditions and we want our children to have that same sense of fun and adventure, team and kinship, risk taking attitude to their learning and being bold and inquisitive.

Yet, he was also a pioneering meteorologist starting the process of forecasting the weather! With this in mind, we also want our children to be thirsty for knowledge, build great learning habits, learn from mistakes and be focused and resilient every day come rain or shine!

It is a combination of these skills and attributes that we want to cultivate for our children, allowing them to thrive within the next phase of their learning and beyond. Education really matters and we want to ensure that ‘every day and every lesson’ counts.
