What skills and experience we're looking for

Our successful candidate will:

  • Bring successful senior leadership experience in special education, ideally at secondary phase
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of all young people within the school, by championing the school’s safeguarding culture and ensuring that policies and procedures relating to safeguarding are fully implemented and followed by all staff
  • Reinforce and continue to develop our child-centred curriculum and culture - ensuring each student experiences a safe, positive, and enriching school life
  • Bring excellent leadership and management skills, with a demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire others; they will distribute leadership through the school and forge teams which support each other and work together effectively
  • Create an outward-facing school which works with other schools and organisations to champion best practice and secure excellent outcomes for all young people
  • Lead by example - with passion, integrity, creativity, resilience, and clarity

What the school offers its staff

  • A school that has been rated Outstanding at recent inspections in 2008, 2014, and 2019
  • Fantastic students who are positive, keen to learn and progress, and who make coming to work rewarding and joyful
  • A highly motivated, dedicated, and friendly staff team who are committed to making a difference - including experienced and supportive senior leadership colleagues
  • Excellent relationships with our parents, carers, support agencies, and our local community
  • An exceptional learning environment with well-invested facilities, including hydrotherapy pool, sensory suites, chill spaces, and indoor and outdoor gyms
  • Almost limitless opportunities for professional growth: we have secured funding and support from Wakefield Council to begin work on a new build including seven additional classrooms, and are exploring options for off-site provision
  • A supportive and involved Governing Body who are committed to the school - and to providing you with a competitive salary and an appropriate and effective professional development package
