Headteacher job summary

Rated as Outstanding by Ofsted (2011) and by SIAMS (2016), we are a thriving Church of England school located to the south west of York with 106 children on roll.

Based on our core values of Compassion, Friendship, Koinonia and Trust, we aim to provide an environment for all members of our school community where positive attitudes to learning and creativity are promoted and valued within the context of Christian belief and practice. The school is reflective of a small, community-based, village school, which has a family feel in a welcoming environment.

The Christian ethos at St. Mary’s is of central importance to our stakeholders and we are seeking a Headteacher who will ensure these values are effectively promoted and upheld.

Our location benefits from excellent connectivity with easy access to the A64 and A1(M), as well as excellent mainline rail connections from nearby York.

We have strong links to the Pathfinder Teaching School Alliance; our current Headteacher being a member of its Headteacher board. We also form part of both the South Bank Cluster and Small Schools Cluster. In addition, we are active in the community and benefit from good relationships with parents, the local authority, the Diocese of York and our local church.

As an effective leader and communicator, your role will be to inspire and influence children, staff and stakeholders while developing and promoting our Christian values. As well as assuming responsibility for all aspects of school life, you will also direct the strategic plan, lead the development of the curriculum and deliver an outstanding provision which meets the needs of all our children.

A creative thinker with high expectations for all, you must be able to demonstrate well-developed leadership skills, a talent for motivating others and the expertise to effectively manage the budget.
Initially, you would have a teaching commitment of 0.2fte, though the intention is to remove this commitment in the short to medium term.

In return, we can offer you a supportive Governing Body, dedicated and experienced staff and the freedom to shape the future of our school.

Glynis is currently our Foundation Governor and has been a valued member of the Governing Body for a number of years. We look forward to receiving your application.
