Headteacher job summary

If you’re ready to take on the challenge of championing a relatively new school and making it the hub of a new community that’s taking shape around it in Derriford, Plymouth, make the move to St. Matthew’s CofE Primary School as Headteacher.

St. Matthews CofE Primary School is part of the St Christopher’s Trust - a family of 17 Church and Community Schools that provides a network of collaboration at many levels. Since opening in 2015, we’ve grown rapidly from 75 pupils to over 400. Accordingly, we’ve taken on many more staff, each of whom are committed to developing the team spirit and family feel of the school and providing a safe, secure and caring environment where all can flourish.

As Headteacher, you’ll have the support of an enthusiastic leadership and staff team with a strong and clearly structured administration team in an amazing, caring, loving school. We have our own nursery too, so there will be the opportunity to nurture children from 3 years of age. In terms of challenges, you can expect plenty. Essentially, it’s almost a blank canvas to take forward and shape – particularly around outdoor learning, playground and field areas and creating welcoming spaces. Marketing the school and fostering stronger links in the community will be important too, as will maintaining a focus on CPD for staff. In summary, we’re very ambitious, so we want a Headteacher that can come on our journey with us and make us an even better school than the one we’re already proud of.

To apply, you’ll need a proven successful senior leadership track record to date, an openness to learning and the potential to make your mark in a school that’s at the heart of a new community. As well as having a clear vision of what a school can be, you’ll have a real passion for children’s growth and inclusion, excellent problem solving skills and the discipline to ensure that systems and practices get embedded.
