What skills and experience we're looking for

We need our new Headteacher to start on 1 September 2024.

As a governing body we are looking to appoint a suitably experienced and enthusiastic senior leader who has well developed inspirational leadership qualities. This together with a fervent desire to build upon our strengths and successes to lead the school to further growth and success in the future.

What the school offers its staff

Saltash is a thriving local community, often referred to as the Gateway to Cornwall.

Benefitting from the best of both worlds, being well connected to the rest of the UK, but also to the best of Cornwall.

Direct train connections include London, Bristol, Exeter and of course Cornwall.

Better still, the outstanding beauty of the Rame Peninsula and its stunning beaches are a short distance away. Alternatively, you can be up in the wilds of Bodmin moor within half an hour.

The City of Plymouth, with attractions such as the Theatre Royal, the National Marine Aquarium and the historic Barbican is within 20 minutes by train, bus, or car.

Saltash has a warm and busy local community. Highlights of the year include the May Fair, Saltash Regatta, and the Christmas Festival. The school plays an active part in these events.

Whatever your interests, you will find thriving and active groups locally. To list just a few, our team at St Stephens enjoy China Fleet Country Club, Saltash Sailing Club, Saltash gig club, kayaking groups, choirs, craft, and both Football and Rugby clubs. Again, the school is actively involved in many of these sports clubs, hosting a few in our wonderful grounds together with the MUGA. Our cross-country team is one of the best in the county.

We have a profound sense of community, houses are more affordable than in other parts of Cornwall, and we do not face the summer traffic suffered in better known spots. We think Saltash is a hidden gem that you would love.

Commitment to safeguarding

We work to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued.
We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice.
The procedures contained in the Safeguarding Policy provide evidence of how this will be implemented within the school and within multi-agency working arrangements.
