Headteacher job summary
Cornelius Vermuyden School is now under the leadership of the South East Essex Academy Trust (SEEAT) and, since April 2024, we have embarked on a significant phase of improvement. We need your expertise and passion to help continue this journey.
The role is not without it's challenges but this is a real opportunity for an experienced school leader to make a difference, ensuring every young person achieves their full potential.
You will work alongside Desi McKeown, our highly respected Executive Headteacher (who also oversees The Deanes School) and an experienced, hands-on, and supportive SEEAT team to develop so that you never feel alone. The successful candidate will provide visible leadership, inspiring staff, parents, students, and the wider school community to embed a culture of high expectations, accountability, and achievement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the school through its improvement journey with clarity, integrity, resilience and good humour.
- Develop and implement effective strategies to raise standards in teaching, learning, and student outcomes.
- Build and sustain a positive and inclusive school culture where every student feels valued and supported.
- Motivate, challenge, and empower staff to deliver high-quality education and professional growth.
- Engage with parents, carers, and external stakeholders to ensure a strong, collaborative school community.
- Use data to monitor progress and ensure measurable, sustainable improvements.
- Maintain a strong focus on behaviour, attendance, and safeguarding to provide a safe, supportive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate:
- An experienced, dynamic, and resilient school leader with a proven track record of driving school improvement.
- Demonstrable experience of leading and managing change, particularly in challenging circumstances.
- Strong understanding of curriculum design, teaching and learning strategies, and data analysis to inform school improvement.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills - a team player with the ability to build positive relationships across the school community.
- A passion for education and a deep commitment to achieving the best outcomes for students.
- Ability to inspire, motivate, and challenge staff to raise standards of teaching and learning.
