  • A leader who can build and maintain strong relationships with staff, governors and the wider local community.
  • A commitment to upholding our strong ethos of promoting a clear Christian vision and values. Continue to promote respect for each other and our world, following an agreed code of values and behaviour.
  • Experience of teaching across the primary age range.
  • Someone who is as equally able to inspire all children across the school as they are at managing a budget and strategically steering the school forward.
  • A leader who is skilled in monitoring and evaluating the quality of education and is able to create clear and robust action plans to ensure that all children flourish and reach their highest potential, including those with special educational needs.

Further details about the role

We are looking to appoint a headteacher at The Minster School, a Church of England voluntary-controlled Primary School, with strong links to the local church, St. Denys The Minster. The Minster School is in Emwell Street, at the western end of the town with a catchment area that includes the village of Upton Scudamore. At present an average of 210 children attend the school, coming from all areas of Warminster.

The school stands in a lovely garden setting in an elevated position looking over the town of Warminster. The main building, dating from 1882, contains four classrooms and a further four classes in a newer building (opened in February 2016), which also contains the main entrance and offices. We have a stand-alone superb activities hall which provides fantastic opportunities for physical education and drama, and is also used by the community.

The grounds, which have been transformed over the past few years, comprise of a playing field with many well-established trees, ornamental gardens and a very old weeping ash which forms the backdrop to the playground. We have a dedicated playground for the younger children, a ball area, a quiet area and a superb timber trail and a Tipi. We are currently developing outdoor classrooms.

The Minster School is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and has robust child protection procedures. We were recognised as and a ‘good’ school by Ofsted in September 2018 and an 'Excellent'school by SIAMs in November 2022. In January 2024 Ofsted conducted an ungraded inspection and we look forward to sharing the full report in due course. We are justifiably proud of our caring ethos which aims to give each child the opportunity to develop their strengths and interests within and beyond the school day.

We need a visionary leader who will challenge and encourage our whole school community and expect to be challenged and supported by governors. Your high expectations should be clearly understood and consistently implemented, with a keen focus on our Christian values, the quality of relationships and excellence in the classroom.

  • We believe that every child matters and is unique, and that all children are safe, secure, happy and healthy.
  • As a Church of England school, we provide a Christian environment for every pupil, including opportunities to worship together and, through a framework of Christian values, to help children to develop as responsible and caring adults.
  • The values chosen by our school community are the foundation of all that we do at the Minster School: Respect, Joy, Truth, Trust, Friendship, Determination, Courage and Service.
  • We encourage all children to enjoy learning, understand how to learn and develop an enquiring mind.
  • We have a dedicated and highly skilled school team who know the children and their families well to support the learning journey.
  • We provide equal opportunities for everybody regardless of individual differences.
  • We respect and are thankful for the enriching environment in which we can all learn about the wider world.
  • Throughout our work we have a clear commitment to supporting families. We aim to work well in partnership with parents and carers and any other agencies to promote the welfare of our children.

Visits are warmly welcomed and encouraged. Visits can be arranged by calling the school office on 01985 213265 or emailing admin@minster.wilts.sch.uk
