The Saint John Henry Newman School is looking for a new headteacher from September 2023. Applications are welcome from suitably experienced senior leaders and the role may also be suitable for a current headteacher looking for a new challenge.

The Saint John Henry Newman School is a successful, faithful, caring and prayerful community and is highly ambitious for its students and staff.

The school is in strong position with students achieving consistently strong results. Staff are dedicated, motivated, and determined to enable students to fulfil their potential. A major refurbishment of the school estate in currently being undertaken with the provision of two new bocks. The first of the new facilities opened in September 2022 with the final phase, including relandscaping the school site, to be completed in 2024.

The school is a member of the Diocese of Westminster Academy Trust, a high performing, mixed phase Catholic Multi Academy Trust. DoWAT leaders work supportively and collaboratively for the common good and to ensure that Catholic excellence permeates all that we do.

The Saint John Henry Newman School is a popular 11-18 mixed Catholic comprehensive school in Stevenage, and is a member of the Diocese of Westminster Academy Trust. The school serves the Catholic community across north Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and as far south as Hatfield, with pupils from more than 25 different parishes. It has an excellent reputation; it is heavily oversubscribed and there are continuing interest lists for all year groups. The roll is currently approximately1600, including 400 in the Sixth Form. The school has benefitted from considerable investment in its buildings, including a new £3.5 million Sports and Performing block (The Pavilion) and a substantial new build programme to replace our main building and Art block.

Since its foundation in 1987, the school has developed a reputation for excellent educational standards combined with unique opportunities to prepare students for a rapidly changing world. This academic success has been acknowledged by the Department for Education, who have written to the school and acknowledged its excellent performance, commenting that The Saint John Henry Newman School is one of the top 90 schools in the country on one measure and in the top 100 schools in the country on another measure. In 2021/22 the students achieved:

38% of all GCSE grades achieved were 9-7

68% A Level at A*, A and B:
