Further details about the role

The Governors of William Gilbert Endowed Primary School & Nursery are looking to appoint an inspirational, forward-thinking headteacher to lead this popular and welcoming Primary School.

Situated in the heart of the village of Duffield, close to the City of Derby, the school is one of two primary schools which represent the whole of the village.

WGES is a Church of England school and proud member of Derby Diocesan Academy Trust (www.ddat.org.uk) and enjoys positive relationships with the team of professionals providing effective support in school improvement and operations.

WGES desires every child to be the best person that they can possibly be and to know that they are valuable in God’s world. The school is committed to working towards this end, so that each child can flourish individually, academically, socially and spiritually.

The school is distinctly Christian and works closely with the parish church of St Alkmund’s. We welcome children and families of all faiths and none, and embrace a methodology of inclusion and the principles of diversity which are central to our understanding of how to live out the gospel.

We are looking for a serving Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher or a highly experienced Senior Leader, who is eager to take on a new and stimulating challenge.

DDAT welcomes a diverse population of both children and staff and is committed to promoting and developing equality of opportunity in all its functions.

DDAT is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to satisfactory references, completion of a probationary period, pre-employment and Disclosure Barring Service checks. The possession of a criminal record will not necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according to the nature of the role and information provided.

Commitment to safeguarding

Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.

Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.

Offers of employment may be subject to the following checks (where relevant):

right to work
