Health & Social Care Teacher (part-time, 2 days) job summary

We are looking for an ambitious, enthusiastic, and committed Health and Social Care teacher who is keen to develop their career at Broadway Academy. This role would suit a newly qualified teacher or a more experienced teacher with outstanding subject knowledge. Health and Social Care is a popular subject within the Academy, with pupil intake increasing each year; the ideal candidate will help to sustain this, as well as enjoy the prospects of teaching larger groups.

Broadway Academy is a high performing academy in north Birmingham. The academy benefits from state-of-the-art facilities throughout, having moved into our new building in 2011.

The Department

The HSC department is a successful and popular faculty; with the number of students opting for the subject increasing every year, we currently have 230 students across KS4 and KS5. The results we produce are some of the best in the school and we work hard as a department to maintain positive P8 scores. Teaching within the department is considered to be outstanding and we work hard, under a determined leadership, to raise the standards of teaching, learning and examination performance in Health and Social Care. Therefore, we require a teacher who has experience of teaching the BTEC Tech Award in Health and Social Care, T Levels in Health and Social Care and the National Diploma/Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care. We believe in teaching students a range of skills, in addition to standard academia. We aim to meet the holistic needs of each student and consider their well-being in everyday teaching.

Our main objectives are to:

  • Enable students to develop essay writing and exam skills
  • Support students to become independent learners
  • Accelerate the outcomes of all students
  • Sustain outstanding KS4 & KS5 P8 scores
  • Deliver good to outstanding lessons
  • Work as a team to develop practise in the department
  • Encourage students to be confident and respectful
  • Maintain health and social care values, alongside Broadway Values
  • Attend Work Experience Placements
  • Improve participation in extra-curricular activities and enrichment, e.g., make more connections to increase university and job prospects

Join us and grow

You will benefit from working within a school, which encourages staff and students to be aspirational. Staff development is a priority and staff are empowered to continue their own learning. Alongside external training opportunities, the academy has developed an accelerated leadership programme linked to NPQML and NPQSL and offers a range of induction and CPD programmes.

We believe in the potential of every student and we are on an exciting journey to outstanding. If you are keen to work in a successful and growing academy, which encourages staff to aim high in their own careers, this could be a great opportunity for you.
