The Cherwell School is a successful comprehensive school in Oxford, rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. We are looking to recruit a key member of staff to a role which could have a significant impact on a young person’s life. The successful candidate will become a permanent 1:1 Support Worker for 30 hours per week within our Inclusion team. The role will require you to provide bespoke and individual support for an individual student with special educational needs in the classroom and 1:1 outside the classroom, and to direct and guide other TA colleagues as part of a team working with this student. This would include teaching parts of the GCSE curriculum, developing a bespoke extra-curricular timetable in line with the student’s interests, and providing social skills interventions 1:1 and with small groups. We are looking for a colleague who has a genuine passion for inclusion of all young people in the school community, who has significant experience in developing trusting relationships with children with complex needs, who is keen to develop appropriate de-escalation strategies that are dignified and fair, and who wants to make a real and significant difference to an individual child’s life. We want to appoint a candidate who is truly inclusive, non-judgemental and kind, and who has a flexible and positive approach and enjoys working as part of a team. The job description and person specification give further details about the role and the applicant we would like to attract. If you feel that you would be qualified and would enjoy taking on this role, we would very much look forward to hearing from you.

About The Cherwell School
The Cherwell School is a high performing and oversubscribed comprehensive school in Oxford (approximately 2,000 students on roll, including 680 in the Sixth Form). We achieved GCSE progress results in the top 5% of all schools in 2019. We are pleased that we hold an ‘Outstanding’ rating by Ofsted as we feel this is a fair reflection of the school, not least as we recognize that we have the capacity to develop and improve further. We consider ourselves to be a school which has at its heart “opportunity, responsibility, excellence” and we aim to make this a deeper reality for all of our students and staff in the years to come. Our aims are supported by our designation as a National Teaching School and as a School Centred Initial Teacher Training provider.
