Salary: Band C Point 13 - 19

(£24,352.86 - £27,915.06 per annum)

37 hours per week

Monday – Thursday 8:00am – 4:00pm Friday 8:00am – 3:30pm (with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break)

38 weeks of the year – Term time + inset

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)? We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our ASC Resource Base. This role offers the opportunity to support students’ educational journey and lead a team of Learning Support Assistants in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Role Overview:

As a HLTA within our ASC Resource Base, you will play a key role in planning, delivering, and adapting learning activities for pupils with ASC, using your knowledge of the National Curriculum. You will be responsible for evaluating and reporting on students’ progress, developing individualised learning plans, and fostering a positive, structured learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and Learning: Plan, prepare, and deliver learning activities to meet both individual and class-level needs.

  • Behaviour and Engagement: Promote positive behaviour, manage challenging behaviours using Trauma-Informed practices, and encourage self-control and independence among pupils.

  • Individualised Support: Develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and provide specialised support based on each child’s developmental needs.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and support a team of Learning Support Assistants, helping to develop and implement effective strategies to aid student learning.

  • Administrative Duties: Provide clerical support, produce detailed reports, and maintain accurate records of pupil achievements and progress.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Qualifications: Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience, with a strong foundation in supporting children with ASC.

  • Curriculum Knowledge: Familiarity with the National Curriculum, literacy, and numeracy strategies, particularly for KS1 and KS2.

  • Behaviour Management: Proven ability to manage and support students with challenging behaviours, ideally with knowledge of Positive Handling techniques.

  • Team Leadership: Experience supervising or mentoring staff, ideally within an educational or SEN setting.

  • IT Competency: Proficiency in using IT to support learning, including specialist software relevant to the curriculum.
