What skills and experience we're looking for

Athelstan Primary School are seeking to appoint a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, 37 hours per week.

If you have high aspirations for children and families, high aspirations for your own career and a genuine love of teaching and supporting learning, we would really like to hear from you!

Athelstan Primary School is a wonderfully vibrant community, where children and adults from many diverse cultures, beliefs and backgrounds blend together to create Team Athelstan. We are an incredible team, who work very hard and who genuinely want to make the difference for all our pupils. We are looking for a HLTA to become part of this team.

Our pupils generally achieve well and make very good progress. Just as importantly, however, we believe that the broader provision we offer our pupils is crucial to developing the whole child and his or her unique interests and talents. Our varied curriculum has enabled us to achieve many awards, recognising the high quality of our subject leadership and delivery; these include the Primary Science Gilt quality mark, the Gold Sports’ mark, the Silver Arts’ mark and the Silver Geography mark. In addition to these awards, we were also granted Green Flag Eco-school status and are the first school in Sheffield to receive the Platinum Modeshift award.

For a number of years, we were the model school for Read, Write, Inc in Sheffield until this system stopped two years ago.

This vacancy is to work across the school to support learning in classrooms or cover for teachers in delivering whole class lessons.

Candidates should be willing to bring ideas, enthusiasm and commitment to our school. The successful candidates will be able to experience high quality training, and receive excellent support in their career.

We are looking for teachers who:

  • Are highly motivated with experience of teaching children of all abilities
  • Are able to communicate, enthuse and inspire
  • Can demonstrate an awareness of and commitment to working in a wonderfully diverse school community
  • Have a strong commitment to teamwork
  • Are committed to an inclusive philosophy of education
  • Have a desire to play an active role in the development of the school and to use their own skills, talents and interests for the benefit of children

In return we will offer you:

  • a happy welcoming school;
  • willing, friendly children;
  • supportive, hard-working staff with shared high expectations;
  • a strong, driven, forward-thinking leadership, with a strong emphasis on the health and well-being of staff, and achieving a good work-life balance.
  • ‘This is a vibrant, happy and welcoming school. Pupils speak very positively about their school with one saying that they would like to come to school every day!’ (Ofsted March 2023)

What the school offers its staff

Athelstan Primary School

Crucible Co-operative Learning Trust

Athelstan Primary School is a wonderfully vibrant community, where children and adults from many diverse cultures, beliefs and backgrounds blend together to create Team Athelstan. We are an incredible team, who work very hard and who genuinely want to make the difference for all our pupils.

Everyone is a valued part of this team, and collaboration and co-operation are fundamental principles of how we can all learn and grow together to be the best that we can be; academically, socially, physically and spiritually. We want our children to aim high and recognise that with hard work, they can and will succeed. This means building on our strengths and reflecting on the areas where we can improve, striving for excellence in all that we do.

We also put great emphasis on respect for and from all, so that we can enable our children to be the best possible citizens in both our community and in wider society. This is encouraged through politeness, courtesy, basic manners, honesty and by taking responsibility for our actions at all times.

All stakeholders are urged to play an active part in our quest to be the best that we can be. Part of this is working with our partner schools (Ballifield Primary and Brunswick Primary) in the Crucible Co-operative Learning Trust, and through our other network schools, so that best practice can be shared and built on.
