What skills and experience we're looking for

  • Experience of meeting Higher Level Teaching Assistant standards and Higher-Level Teaching Assistant Qualification.
  • Training in relevant learning strategies e.g. literacy
  • Specialist skills/training in curriculum or learning area e.g. bi-lingual, sign language, ICT
  • Can use ICT effectively to support learning
  • Full working knowledge of relevant polices/codes of practice/legislation
  • Working knowledge and experience of implementing national/foundation stage curriculum and other relevant learning programmes/strategies
  • Good understanding of child development and learning processes
  • Understanding of statutory frameworks relating to teaching
  • Experience working with children of relevant age in a learning environment
  • Excellent numeracy/literacy skills – equivalent to NVQ Level 2 in English and Maths
  • Ability to organise, lead and motivate a team
  • Constantly improve own practice/knowledge through self-evaluation and learning from others
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults
  • Work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these

Beormund Primary school serves children with complex social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. Our children arrive having experienced some form of trauma(s) and all have an Education & Health Care Plan with varying needs such as attachment, SCLN, ADHD, ASD or ODD. All of our children need patience, time and care.

We rely on a successful, experienced and capable team of people, dedicated to improving the life chances of those already excluded from a mainstream setting. We are currently looking to recruit new members to our support staff team. We are looking for people who can look beyond the behaviours children display as we seek to establish the messages they are attempting to communicate. Our curriculum is personalised with an aim to support, challenge and inspire children. Our collective drive is to reignite their love for learning and for them to achieve.

We hold high expectations of our children who make accelerated academic progress as well as improve their social and emotional responses and behaviours. Successful candidates will have the responsibility for keeping children safe, enhancing their self-esteem, providing appropriate challenge as well as supporting teachers in delivering purposeful, inspiring and engaging learning experiences.
