What skills and experience we're looking for

Gainsborough Primary and Nursery Academy is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to lead their Acorn Room, a small group inclusion hub for children in EYFS and Key Stage 1 with complex special educational needs.

The postholder will play a vital role in delivering high-quality teaching and learning, working closely with the EYFS lead and the SENDCO to raise achievement and support pupils' academic and personal development.

In the first instance, this is a temporary position for one academic year. However, there may be the opportunity for this to become a permanent position for the right candidate.

The key responsibilities of the postholder are:

  • To assist the EYFS lead/SENCO with designing individualised support plans and a bespoke curriculum.

  • To lead in the delivery of an adaptive curriculum that meets the needs of all pupils.

  • To support pupils with complex needs to enhance and promote their independence.

  • To support pupils to develop effective communication and social interaction skills.

  • To ensure good working relationships with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the pupils’ care and promote team working and good working relationships with colleagues.

  • To be proactive with classroom organisation, including developing effective visual supports and resources.

  • To maintain regular and appropriate records as directed, following the school’s policies.

  • Help maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment for all learners.

  • To lead and coach additional support staff.

  • Be flexible and open to change.

  • Have excellent verbal communication skills.

  • Hold HLTA status (or be working towards it).
