New College Durham Academies Trust are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team at North Durham Academy.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students with additional needs through the delivery of therapeutic and intervention programmes, designed to promote wellbeing, independence and engagement in learning. Working under the direction of the SENCO/Head of Inclusion, you will help students access the curriculum, build self-esteem, and develop essential life and social skills.

You will coordinate and deliver a range of therapeutic interventions (such as zones of regulation, social stories, and anxiety management activities) and work closely with teaching staff and external professionals to ensure that students receive consistent, effective support. The role will also include leading small group sessions, providing class cover when required, and training other support staff in intervention strategies.

We are looking for someone who is proactive, nurturing, and resilient, with a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for young people. You will demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills, and be confident using ICT to track and record progress.

Applicants should hold GCSEs (grades 9-4 / A-C) in English and Maths* and a Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent). HLTA status and experience delivering targeted interventions for students with additional needs are highly desirable.
