What skills and experience we're looking for

Felixstowe School are looking to appoint an HLTA with a specialism in SEMH to join our school on a permanent basis as soon as possible.

As an HLTA you will work collaboratively with teaching staff and other support staff on the preparation of resources designed to support students experiencing a range of SEMH needs. You will deliver a range of SEMH assessments and interventions. There will be opportunities to progress in your career as you gain experience and develop your expertise in SEMH support.

Ideally you will have experience of working with students with a range of complex SEMH needs including emotionally based school avoidance. The role may vary in order to respond to the changing needs of our students and may include supporting in classes, in small groups or on a one to one basis.

You will:

  • Be determined to make a positive contribution towards the learning experience of our students;
  • Have high expectations of all our students as well as a commitment to raising standards and promoting progress;
  • Be flexible and open to change in order to meet the needs of our students, the needs of the SEND department and those of the School;
  • Be pro-active, and willing to use your own initiative, as appropriate;
  • Possess good interpersonal, organisational, communication and administrative skills;
  • Take a professional approach in your dealings with students, staff, parents/carers and external agencies;
  • Be able to deal with sensitive information in a confidential manner;
  • Have an interest in special needs and education and be willing to undertake further professional training and development.
