Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Fixed Term October 2021 to August 2023 (full/part time)
Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School is looking to appoint a Higher Level Teaching Assistant for a fixed term period to provide one to one support for the learning and welfare of a Sixth Form pupil with Autism; complex SEMH difficulties and a range of other Special Educational Needs.
The role is to ensure that the pupil can safely integrate as fully as possible in the activities generally undertaken by the other children in the class, and can fulfil their educational potential and work towards their independence. The HLTA will run specific programmes and activities to assist the pupil’s individual learning and social needs, and will implement the targets on the pupil’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) in liaison with the subject class teachers, Pastoral/ SEND support and the SENCO. This position a fixed term post for 34 hours per week (part time would also be considered), term time only, plus INSET days, (38 weeks per annum) 0.7701 fte. Salary is Kent Range 6 (£20,585 - £22,469), pro-rata £15,852 - £17,303; detailed job description is available on request from the school.

We are looking for a candidate who is appropriately qualified and/ or experienced, having an understanding of Autism; SEMH and emotionally unstable personality disorder. Enthusiastic and a strong team player, they will have the ability to work proactively and independently, to multi-task, prioritise and work under pressure. The successful applicant will have good communication, organisational and observational skills, and will care about children, particularly those who find learning and managing their emotions and behaviour difficult.
