History & Politics Subject Tutor job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the History and Politics Department within an outstanding Sixth Form College. We are seeking a proactive individual who is able to teach History with some Politics and provide an excellent level of support to both staff and students in the College.

The Curriculum Area of History

There are currently 6 specialist teachers teaching over 350 students A level Modern History. The candidate will be required to teach the Edexcel linear specification as part of a team of specialists in a department identified as outstanding. Our key areas of teaching focus on Modern Germany, early 20th century Italy and the British Empire. Our coursework analyses the debate concerning the causes of World War One. You do not need to have taught these areas previously but you must have an enthusiasm, capacity and willingness to learn about them. You should be capable of delivering the subject to a range of student abilities.

The Curriculum Area of Politics

The department offers A level Politics. There are currently 4 specialist teachers in the department teaching 150 students. The candidate will be required to teach the Edexcel linear specification. Our key areas of teaching are UK Politics and core political ideas, UK Government and feminism and Global Politics. You do not need to have taught these areas previously but you must have an enthusiasm, capacity and willingness to learn about them. You should be capable of delivering the subject to a range of student abilities.

This role allows you to focus on teaching the subject you are enthusiastic about, to fantastic young people who have chosen the subject and are motivated to learn. You will have the opportunity to enhance the curriculum in ways that benefit students and interest you, for example through extra curricular activities, as well as developing your skills and teaching practice supported by effective and dynamic leadership. You will be part of a team which strives for continual improvement in teaching and learning, student experience and student attainment.
