HLTA job summary

We are seeking an enthusiatic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to provide high-quality support across the school. This role includes delivering planned lessons during teacher non timetabled time and teacher absence (e.g., due to sickness). During part of their timetbale, the HLTA would also work closely with pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to support pupils access the curriculum and reach their full potential

Key Responsibilities:Classroom Cover and Teaching Support
  • Deliver pre-prepared lessons in the absence of the class teacher, maintaining continuity of learning.

  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies.

  • Provide feedback to teachers regarding pupil progress and behavior.

  • Support pupils' learning across a range of subjects and year groups.

SEND Support
  • Work closely with the SENCo to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and support strategies.

  • Provide 1:1 or small group interventions for pupils with SEND, tailored to their specific learning needs.

  • Assist in assessing pupils' progress and adapting support accordingly.

  • Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.

General Duties
  • Prepare and adapt learning materials under teacher or SENCo guidance.

  • Promote positive relationships with pupils, parents, professionals and colleagues.

  • Engage with and understand the school’s safeguarding and behaviour policies.

  • Participate in training, meetings, and school development initiatives as required.


Person Specification:

Essential:

  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience.

  • Experience supporting teaching and learning, including leading groups or covering classes.

  • Understanding of SEND and strategies to support pupils with diverse needs.

  • Strong communication and behavior management skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience delivering interventions and whole class sessions.

  • Knowledge of EHCPs and SEN Code of Practice.
