Job description

Pilgrim Primary Academy is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and committed Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive team in providing an exceptional quality of education for our learners.

This role will involve leading therapeutic interventions for pupils who may have experienced early trauma or adverse experiences, supporting them to regulate feelings and behaviours, as part of a wider pastoral team. The HLTA will also be required to work with whole classes, covering short term teacher absence, and some planned management/PPA release sessions as well as with groups and individual children.

Essential educational requirements

HLTA or equivalent qualification
Numeracy/Literacy skills equivalent to NVQ Level 2 in English and Maths

Essential skills and experience

• Training in relevant learning strategies e.g. approaches to teaching literacy (including phonics) and maths
• Specialist skills/training in curriculum or learning area e.g. bilingual, sign language, ICT and the willingness to be trained to Diploma Level in the Trauma Informed Schools approach (funding and release time provided)
• Knowledge of relevant policies/codes of practice/legislation
• Knowledge and experience of implementing national/foundation stage curriculum and other relevant learning programmes/strategies
• Understanding of child development and learning processes
• Understanding of the SEND Code of Practice or experience of working with a variety of SEND needs
• Understanding of statutory frameworks relating to teaching at a level appropriate to the HLTA grade
