The RoleWe are seeking a passionate and highly ambitious History Teacher, to be second in charge of the Humanities Department for September 2025. The ability to teach Religious Studies would be beneficial. They will contribute to embedding an exciting and knowledge rich curriculum in our Humanities department, driving forward a love of learning in our school.
The successful candidate will assist in establishing the direction for teaching, learning and assessment in humanities, in-line with the whole-school pedagogical strategy of knowledge-based learning, to set the highest expectations and ensure that all students not only achieve excellent outcomes but flourish within an environment of nurture.

The Humanities Department at King James Academy is well resourced, with class sets of a variety of textbooks, display materials and other resources. The curriculum is planned collaboratively and each lesson is supported with relevant resources. The department has the use of five well-equipped classrooms located near each other, a departmental office and storage spaces. Members of the department work closely together.
At KS3 pupils in History study a chronologically arranged curriculum. Over KS3 pupils develop their understanding of concepts such as power and control, empire, rights and freedoms, and religion.
In Y7 pupils study the Silk Roads, the impact of the Norman Conquest, the role of religion, the Angevin monarchs, ‘She-Wolves’, Medieval Mali, England’s crises 1348-1485 and Mughal India. In Year 8 pupils study aspects of Tudor England, King James I, the English Civil War, the development of parliament, slavery and empire. In Year 9 pupils study the Industrial Revolution, the French Revolution, the struggle for the right to vote, the causes and impact of the First World War, the rise of the Nazis, the Holocaust and the Cold War. Local history is used at various times as a lens through which to look at national developments
GCSE History is a popular option. At KS4 we teach OCR B (Schools History Project), studying The People’s Health, Norman Conquest, Making of America and Living Under Nazi Rule. For the History Around Us unit we study Framlingham Castle and undertake a fieldtrip to the site each year. Each of the units is well-resourced and planned.
