Teacher of Creative iMedia and Computing job summary
In year 7 pupils learn how to use ICT for presentation, research, modelling, multimedia and coding activities. This is achieved through two formal lessons each week. The knowledge, skills and understanding that pupils gain is also applied to other areas of the curriculum where ICT is used extensively. In year 8 pupils continue to develop their creative and problem solving skills, and gain relevant experience to help prepare for their option choices. This is achieved through a single lesson of ICT each week during year 8. Throughout year 7 and 8 pupils complete a range of interactive homework tasks each week independently using Google Classroom, and other online creative problem-solving activities.
During our three year KS4 structure at Alcester Academy, two optional pathways are available in ICT and Computer Science; OCR Cambridge National in Creative iMedia (Levels 1&2), and OCR GCSE Computer Science. Pupils are encouraged to choose the pathway most appropriate to their ability and interests. Google Classroom is used extensively for both option choices, to deliver lesson and homework content.
The ICT and Computer Science department at Alcester Academy is proud of the progress pupils make. Courses delivered in recent years (Edexcel Level 2 Certificate in Digital Applications) and OCR GCSE Computing have been extremely successful. During 2018 pupils achieved 100% A*-C grades in CiDA, with 41% achieving A*-A grades. In 2019 pupils achieved 100% A*-C, 40% A*-A, and 27% A* grades.
