Specific duties will include: -
- Maintenance, monitoring & installation of hardware and software
- Assisting the Network Development Manager with management of the school network
- Service desk management and working with team members to troubleshoot complex and routine issues.
- Supporting and advising staff and student users on the use of software packages and a range of hardware from PCs through to Audio/Visual equipment.
- Assisting in the transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11 throughout the school IT estate.
It is equally important that the person appointed has excellent communication skills and can work under their own initiative.
Knowledge of SIMS, Active Directory & virtual server applications is preferable but not essential, as we have developed an in-house training programme and the opportunity to develop skills through external courses where relevant. What the school offers its staff
The school delivers discrete Computer Science to all students in Years 7 & 8 along with Computer Science GCSE as an option. Beyond this there is considerable demand for IT access within many KS4 courses and activities.
The school has a relatively new virtualised server infrastructure with a site-wide managed switch and wireless network. The school is currently in the planning stages of a building project which will involve the re-siting of server rooms and potentially our specialist IT rooms.
We offer:
- Excellent working relationships at all levels
- On-the-job learning and development opportunities
- Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
Commitment to safeguarding
Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Mount St Mary’s is a successful and oversubscribed inner city school located in the very heart of the city. Drawing from three of the four compass points the school flourishes in an atmosphere of engagement and aspiration drawing hugely upon the experiences of our incredibly diverse community.
Belief, education, aspiration and continuous learning are at the core of all that we do. We believe that all our students and staff have limitless potential and it is our responsibility to unlock this and ensure it is realised by all in our care.
Recent inspections describe us as a joyful place, with an authentic mission…clearly embraced by all the school community and foragers a passion… for desiring to give back. Leaders have developed a nurturing school, one in which there is a strong sense of responsibility towards each other. We have a well established reputation for our care, guidance and support ensuring all learners are afforded a high level of structure and personalised development.
In April 2019 the school underwent a Section 48 Inspection gaining an overall judgement of Good with Outstanding. The report comments “Students are polite, confident and respectful in the way they treat each other and interact with staff and visitors. They are .. highly articulate and proud of their school and their personal achievements. Behaviour in school is excellent and a strength of the school as it reflects its Catholic character.”
Our recent 2019 OFSTED Inspection graded our school as 'Good' in all areas. We have a well established reputation for our care, guidance and support, ensuring all learners are afforded a high level of structure and personalised development, recognised within our Ofsted report. All students seek to access extra curricular activities beyond the school day, be that of a sporting nature, academic, performing arts or public speaking. This is an area we value highly and continue to see growth in.
With the return to national progress comparatives in 2022, Mount St Mary’s topped both local and regional tables for P8. This success has been replicated in 2023, where we have actively bucked the vast majority of national trends.
