What skills and experience we're looking for

Mount St Mary’s is a successful and oversubscribed inner city school located in the very heart of the city. Drawing from three of the four compass points the school flourishes in an atmosphere of engagement and aspiration drawing hugely upon the experiences of our incredibly diverse community.

In April 2019 the school underwent a Section 48 Inspection gaining an overall judgement of Good with Outstanding. The report comments "Students are polite, confident and respectful in the way they treat each other and interact with staff and visitors. They are .. highly articulate and proud of their school and their personal achievements. Behaviour in school is excellent and a strength of the school as it reflects its Catholic character."

Our recent Section 5 OFSTED Inspection (10/2019) graded our school as 'Good' in all areas. It described us as a joyful place, with an authentic mission...clearly embraced by all the school community and foragers a passion... for desiring to give back. Leaders have developed a nurturing school, one in which there is a strong sense of responsibility towards each other. We have a well-established reputation for our care, guidance and support ensuring all learners are afforded a high level of structure and personalised development.

With the return to national progress comparatives in 2022, Mount St Mary’s topped both local and regional tables for P8. This success was replicated in 2023, and again in 2024, where we continue to buck the national trends.

All students seek to access extracurricular activities beyond the school day, be that of a sporting nature, academic, performing arts or public speaking. This is an area we value highly and continue to see growth in.

Required as soon as possible.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic candidate who believes in a strong team ethic, have a passion for SEND and Inclusion, can set high expectations for themselves and others, are flexible and adaptable and can demonstrate a resilience in ensuring every individual is recognised for their potential.

We encourage applications both from those wishing to begin a career working in schools and those with experience who wish to further develop their skills and expertise.

Our successful SEND team provide opportunities and support a wide range of needs, including SEMH (social, emotional and mental health), autism and complex communication needs. Students with SEND make excellent progress and have consistently outperformed national averages over the past 3 years.

Our inclusion based Learning Support Assistants play a key role in ensuring all children succeed and have access to a provision that creates opportunities and supports academic progress.

Being part of this team will give you the opportunity to show and develop a wide range of inclusion skills. Working 1:1 and with small groups of students across both Key Stage 3 and 4, you will directly support learners with SEMT and specific learning needs.

You will work as part of a team and be given opportunities to develop a wider range of SEND and Inclusion skills, including CPD to enhance your knowledge of SEND linked areas such as autism and SLCN (Speech, Language and Communication Needs).

We are a team that works together and our Inclusion LSAs may cross over into the classroom to ensure support for individuals is continuous as they reintegrate from Inclusion back into mainstream lessons. You will also be given scope to develop independence, create and lead on initiatives and identify opportunities for self growth and development within the field of Inclusion and SEND.

School application forms and further details can be downloaded from the school website. Application forms should be returned to Mrs Stubbs by email at a.stubbs@mountstmarys.org
