What skills and experience we're looking for

Ashdown Primary School in Crowborough is looking for two Heads of School from September 2025. One to lead our junior site with a whole school responsibility for Achievement and Potential (assessment, data and CPD). The other to lead our infant site with a whole school responsibility for Inclusion (PP, LAC/PLAC, SEND, EAL).

We are a two-form entry split site school with a Good OfSTED (2023).

We value every child for what they are and prepare them for everything they could be.

You will work alongside the other Head of School under the leadership of our Headteacher, Mrs Dawn Gibbs.

This job promises all of the things that are great about headship:

  • Enabling great kids to achieve
  • Developing your own staff
  • Collaborating with strong governors
  • Working with supportive parents
  • Making your mark in an innovative school on its journey to brilliance.

You will have the freedom to run your own site, while having a whole school responsibility (across EYFS, KS1 & KS2), but with the comfort of knowing the buck stops with the Head!

What the school offers its staff

At our school, we pride ourselves on being different, with our unique setup creating a wealth of opportunities for both staff and children. To truly understand what makes us special, you need to visit to see what makes our school such a remarkable place to be. With the internal promotion of our current Head of School to Headteacher, now is the perfect time to become part of our exciting journey.

We blend the benefits of a large school – expertise, resources, and a strong network – with the close-knit, personalised feel of a smaller school. Our stable, dedicated staff enjoy a low turnover, making it a supportive and welcoming place for staff and children.

Ashdown Primary School commits and expects its staff to commit to East Sussex County Council’s Equal Opportunities policies.

Commitment to safeguarding

Ashdown Primary School also takes its safeguarding responsibilities extremely seriously and is committed to keeping children safe. This post is subject to satisfactory references, DBS checks, and questions will be asked at interview and of referees as to the suitability of candidates to work with children.

Ashdown Primary School was opened in September 2015 after Whitehill Infants and Herne Juniors amalgamated. We are one school over two sites (one infant, one junior). We have an Executive Head who leads the whole school and a Head of School at each site.

We have 421 children on roll, with low numbers of SEND and Pupil Premium children.

Our parents are very supportive, with an active parents’ forum and a hugely successful PTA (Friends of Ashdown Primary School).
