Purpose:

The Interim Assistant Business Manager plays a vital role in supporting the School Business Manager to ensure Orchard School Bristol meets its educational and operational objectives. This professional position provides strategic and administrative support to the leadership team, working collaboratively with teaching and support staff to enhance school effectiveness and raise standards of achievement. The role promotes a strong business ethos and ensures optimal use of resources across key operational areas including finance, administration, HR, ICT, facilities and health & safety.

Duties (further details in the attached application pack)

  • Implement financial procedures, monitor budgets, report variances, ensure compliance, and support funding opportunities.
  • Lead admin staff, conduct reviews, run meetings, and support strategic planning with the School Business Manager.
  • Manage site maintenance, inspections, and ensure a safe, secure environment aligned with PFI obligations.
  • Oversee admin operations, improve systems, ensure efficiency and coordinate statutory reporting.
  • Enforce health & safety procedures, maintain records, monitor risks and support departmental compliance.
  • Assist with ICT contingency planning and support operational continuity.
  • Support recruitment, maintain HR records and ensure Single Central Record compliance.
