About this role

The St Bart's Multi Academy Trust, in partnership with Governors, staff and children of Abbey Hill Academy and College are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our hard working and committed team.

Main purpose of the job

To have day-to-day responsibility for a group of college students based on our Supported Internship programme.

Duties and responsibilities

  • To plan for and deliver our Supported Internship programme
  • To contribute to the long-term planning for the Interns
  • To plan and prepare lessons, specifically in Literacy, Numeracy, Life Skills and Employability.
  • To contribute to the selection and preparation of teaching resources that meet the diversity of students’ needs and interest
  • To provide differentiated learning activities for timetabled sessions
  • To plan opportunities for students to learn in out-of-school contexts, in accordance with academy policies and procedures.
  • To monitor students’ participation and progress, providing feedback to the College Lead, and giving constructive feedback to students as they learn.
  • To advise College Lead in assessment and EHCP milestones of the group
  • To manage planning, preparation of work, and be responsible for monitoring, assessing and record keeping of students.
  • To coordinate the assessment of students
  • Organisation of student portfolios (including any for external moderation
  • Ensuring progress is tracked/evidenced in relation to EHCP milestones
  • To communicate effectively and sensitively with students to support their learning.
  • To be responsible for writing annual reviews and reports.
  • To have general oversight for the care and welfare for the students
  • To support the transition of students in a variety of settings e.g. college, work experience, intern placements, job interviews
  • To use behaviour management strategies, in line with the academy’s policy and procedures which contribute to a purposeful learning environment
  • Maintain a safe environment
  • To represent the academy, where required, in liaison with outside agencies. eg: social care meetings, annual reviews, transition meetings
  • To prepare and complete class risk assessments (via e-Visits) for all visits including work experience and intern placement
  • Management and guidance of physical and emotional development in the transition from childhood to adulthood, including the delivery of PSHE curriculum.
  • Liaison with parents/guardians – eg. parents’ evenings within contracted hours
  • Liaison with outside agencies
  • To liaise with job coaches to ensure progress is tracked and the curriculum is adapted to match individual needs.
  • To contribute to, and implement academy policies which directly affect students in the college.
  • To take responsibility for the direction of staff supporting the effective delivery of the curriculum
