What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for an outstanding teacher, who is dedicated to the welfare, safeguarding and achievement of every child; who wants to make a difference and knows the pathway that will allow pupils to do so.
If you have not worked in SEN before, but are enthusiastic and motivated to make the move, we will give you additional training and provide support. Experience of teaching exams would be beneficial and teachers in their early career are welcome to apply.
If you would like to join an enthusiastic, friendly and hardworking team then we look forward to receiving your application.
What the school offers its staff
The positive impact you can have on a young person’s life is likely to be the reason you became an educator. At The Walnuts School, that impact will be greater than you could have imagined. If you share our ethos and values and believe ‘being unique should be celebrated’ and want to achieve the best possible outcomes for our pupils, then we are the school for you.
The Walnuts School is an all age (Reception to Year 14) special school for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder or Social Communication Difficulties with associated learning difficulties, currently operating across 2 Campuses in Milton Keynes. In September we will be expanding onto a further site, therefore we need an outstanding teacher to join our growing team.
The current vacancy is within our new Galley Hill Campus which is being purpose built for our students. The class will have 4 pupils and 3 x L3 teaching assistants; many of these students have presented with challenging behaviour in their previous placement and require a personalised approach to teaching and learning. The Campus will open in October with two classes and will grow by a further two classes each year to a maximum of six.
Key to the role will be learning what engages each pupil, how they learn and how they are motivated, channelling these factors into how you teach each subject, so that every pupil gets the most out of every day. You will inspire your pupils to enjoy a range of subjects, bringing each lesson to life, engaging them in a love of learning.
Further details about the role
Visits to the school are encouraged. The Walnuts School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will require an enhanced DBS check. We are an equal opportunities employer. We reserve the right to close the recruitment process at any time and will interview when a candidate meets the essential requirements.
Commitment to safeguarding
The Walnuts School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The school follows safer recruitment procedures and all staff are subject to enhanced Criminal Records Bureau checks.
