What skills and experience we're looking for

Education, Training and Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • First Degree or equivalent in Mathematics or related subject
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • At least one year’s experience teaching Mathematics
  • Commitment to the comprehensive ideal and to the principles and practice of equal opportunities and inclusion
  • The knowledge and vision to put these into practice to meet current and future challenges within your subject and pastoral areas
  • A keen interest in young people as individuals, in how they learn, and in a collaborative approach to learning
  • A good understanding of student needs, support and interventions.
  • An ability to teach the full age range of 11 – 16 in Mathematics, there is also opportunity to teach at A Level .
  • Ensure effective learning for all students through excellent teaching and delivery of well-planned and organised lessons
  • Assess, record and report on the development, progress, and attainment of all students
  • Use appropriate strategies to ensure outstanding student progress and wellbeing
  • Support the development of teaching materials and revision resources within the department
  • Support necessary intervention and/or enrichment activities for students to further develop their experience of Mathematics within the school.
  • Confidence, imagination and drive

  • Collaborate with teachers to plan, produce, and implement the scheme of work for each year group within the designated Key Stage, ensuring alignment with school objectives and national standards.
  • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the schemes of work and make necessary adjustments to enhance future teaching and learning experiences.
  • Provide support to teachers by facilitating access to resources and materials for use in the classroom, fostering an environment conducive to effective teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement assessments for each year group in line with the school's feedback policy, monitoring their effectiveness and making changes as required to improve student outcomes.
  • Assist teachers in maintaining records of assessment results and utilize this data to inform decisions regarding pupil grouping and support strategies.
  • Stay informed about national changes to education policies, curriculum frameworks, and initiatives, and disseminate relevant information to teachers to ensure alignment with best practices.
  • Contribute to the overall vision and goals of the department by collaborating with the Head of Department (HOD) and supporting departmental initiatives.
  • Serve as a role model and advocate for teaching and learning within the department, providing support to the HOD during departmental meetings and in-service training (INSET).
