Millfield is an expanding school (recently increased from 10 to 12 classes and looking to be 14 classes within the next two years) and offers an interesting context which makes it a very rewarding school in which to work. Almost all pupils are of white British heritage with a few pupils who have English as their second language. Pupils come from a wide range of backgrounds - overall, whilst their social and economic circumstances are ‘average’ two thirds sit within the ‘low average’. The school has broadly average FSM and SEN but the majority of children tend to start school with very poor language and communication skills; approximately one third of the children attract the pupil premium. There are a significant number of families with some complex circumstances which do impact on their children- for example the school has employed a full time Family Support Adviser with a strong background in building emotional resilience and within the social care arena; she has been able to provide effective support for many families and their children. The School has a Nursery for 3 and 4 year olds which, along with our Reception, was judged to be Outstanding by Ofsted in March 2018.

Millfield serves part of the growing village of Littleport which is close to the city of Ely. Littleport has a train station and is approximately an hour and a quarter from London Kings Cross on the mainline to Kings Lynn. The school has undergone building expansion giving us the capacity for 420 children.

Most recent Ofsted- March 2018

This was a very positive and affirming inspection:

Overall Effectiveness: Good All judgements Good with Early Years Outstanding

The inspecting team felt that many aspects of the School sit within the ‘outstanding’ judgement- not just for the EYFS (Reception and Nursery), but also for the other areas. I am very proud of the fact that we are at the ‘top of Good with much that sits within Outstanding’. Their view was that the Early Years was one of the very best that they had seen.

Working within a team

We recognise that whilst teaching is a highly rewarding profession, it is also demanding; because of this, all our teachers have PPA time together within their teaching team. This means there is quality time to reflect, discuss and plan the next steps in learning with year group colleagues; it also gives the opportunity to share good practice and resources. We take great pride in the fact that all our staff work well together, supporting and challenging each other so that we provide the best we can for our children, whilst also doing all we can, together, to manage workload effectively.

Our curriculum

We have a learning challenge based curriculum which is designed to respond to the interests and needs of the children whilst also ensuring they have their entitlement.

Being part of The Elliot Foundation Academies Trust

In December 2015 the school chose to convert to an academy with The Elliot Foundation Academies Trust (TEFAT). This is a trust that celebrates good practice and supports its teachers and children to become the best that they can. It is NOT a trust that has a ‘corporate mould’ imposed upon its schools. Not only do we work closely with schools in the Ely Partnership, but we also undertake joint work with other Elliot Schools in the area. The Trust puts on a range of professional development opportunities that run through the academic year, so if you are a NQT, recently qualified teacher, or are looking for leadership development, then the School is in a good position to offer you effective training and further professional development. For experienced teachers it may be helpful to know that the Trust follows School Teachers Pay and Conditions so years of service are transferred across in terms of continuous service and pension benefits.

If you feel you would like to apply, please complete the application form enclosed, with an accompanying letter of application of no more than two sides of A4 paper; CVs will not be accepted. Given the challenging times in which we are currently operating, unfortunately, we cannot accept visits to the School. However if you wish to know more about the School and the position, please do ring the School and a member of the Office staff will take your details so that a member of the School’s Leadership Team can call you back: office@millfieldprimary.org or by telephoning Amanda Bidecant (Office Manager) on 01353 861612.
