Start date: 1st September 2022
Salary: L1-L5
Location: Acton, London
Nearest Tube station: Acton Town
Nearest Overground station: Acton Central
Deadline: noon on Monday 13th June 2022
Interview dates: Thursday 16th June 2022

A rewarding opportunity to be part of a dedicated team committed to ensuring the long-term success of the school.

As Assistant Principal, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of the academy’s leadership in preparation for Deputy Headship and beyond. Working alongside the Principal in this first year you will have the exciting responsibility of leading Maths and Assessment across the school. This is a class-based Year 6 role but with a day a week release time additional to PPA to enable you to fulfil your leadership responsibilities.

As a member of the senior leadership team, you will be centrally involved in the overall leadership and management of the academy and will help to develop a school culture that is both nurturing and rigorous.

We are looking for a highly motivated, capable, resilient and reflective leader to work alongside our Principal, playing a leading role for Ark Byron. The new leader will enter a well-established and high-achieving school with much to be proud of and celebrate, and with greater things to come.

Ideal candidates will:
- Have the desire to learn and grow
- Have the desire to work closely with a Principal
- Have a good understanding of what makes an excellent school
- Have a good understanding and passion for what makes an excellent primary curriculum
- Have experience of having managed and led parts of a successful school previously
- Have the ambition, drive and resilience of an excellent leader
- Be a great teacher themselves. As a leader of teaching, we are looking for someone who really knows what great learning looks like in the classroom and how to achieve it particularly in KS2
- Have a proven track record of achieving high outcomes in KS2 in particular
- Be fully aligned with Ark’s values and six pillars
- Be excited by, and committed to, supporting practices that will drive great progress across the wider network of Ark schools

In return, you will work with experienced and nurturing leaders and will be given the opportunity to broaden and develop your skills. We are committed to providing staff with high-quality and regular leadership development. This is a rare opportunity to help lead Ark Byron at an important point in its development. This presents a unique opportunity for personal and professional development. The successful candidate will have the full support of Ark to ensure Byron makes a lasting contribution to its community, supporting local children to fulfil their ambitions.

Joining Ark Byron is an exciting opportunity to help develop a relatively young school, which has had its first Year 6 this year and embark on a rewarding career path within the Ark Multi-Academy Trust. There are plenty of opportunities for career progression. We will provide access to regular training and coaching, and an arena to share best practice regularly.

We are based in a new, purpose-built building in a fantastic park setting on the edge of Acton Park, with views of trees from every room. We make use of this unique resource through integrating outdoor learning into our curriculum.

Ark is committed to safeguarding children; successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Commitment to safeguarding

Ark is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in its academies.

Ark requires all employees to undertake an enhanced DBS check. You are required, before appointment, to disclose any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. Non-disclosure may lead to termination of employment. However, disclosure of a criminal background will not necessarily debar you from employment - this will depend upon the nature of the offence(s) and when they occurred.
