High Meadow Community School is a thriving, growing primary school at the heart of the community. We currently have 6 classes from nursery to Year 5 and from September 2022 we will have our first ever Year 6 class.
Our school learning environment is bright and well resourced and our children in Nursery and Reception enjoy learning and playing together in a creative, nature inspired space. To accommodate our increase in numbers, we now have a wonderful, creative new learning space called 'The Burrow' which is home to our Key Stage 2 classes, namely The Rabbits, The Hedgehogs, The Foxes and The Otters. The Burrow has been built to optimise children's connection with nature; overlooking our natural meadow and Forest School with floor to ceiling windows, a living turf roof and their own outdoor space in which to enjoy the natural world.
Alongside our amazing learning space, we are proud to be a Gold Arts Mark Award school which recognises the importance of ensuring the Arts run through the heart of our curriculum. Weekly music and singing lessons led by a range of peripatetic specialists ensure our spaces are full of joy and harmonies too!
Our children also benefit from weekly Forest School lessons led by our qualified Forest School Leader. There, children learn to appreciate and love the natural world as well as build dens, roast marshmallows on open fires and build bug hotels to encourage the minibeasts to take up residence in our amazing space.
All of our practice is informed by research with the Education Endowment Foundation recommendations influencing everything we do. We teach Maths using a Mastery approach and are in the third year of working with the White Rose (now Origin) Maths Hubs. Our maths lead now showcases her outstanding maths teaching to other schools who are at the start of their maths mastery journey. In english, we recognise the importance of the development early language and as such use the Storytelling Approach to teach literacy skills from the early years through to the spring term of Year 1. We then transition to the Power of Reading (led by Centre for Literacy in Primary Education) where high quality children's books help develop our children into outstanding readers and writers. To find out even more about our wonderful school please check out our website.
